The state assembly of Kelantan, Malaysia, passed a bill on 19 March to bring one step closer the enforcement of sharia penalties such as amputation for theft, flogging for drinking alcohol and stoning for adultery. A bill passed in Kelantan 22 years ago to allow these hudud punishments (punishments specified by the Quran) had never been implemented because the Malaysian federal government ruled that it was unconstitutional, but now a private bill be presented to the federal parliament aiming to change this. Pray that the plans of those working to find a way for hudud punishments to be implemented now will fail. If implemented, there would be a death sentence for Muslims who chose to leave Islam and follow Christ.
